San Antonio Woman Charged with Felony Interference in Child Custody
Angel Nieves, 33, has been charged with felony interference with child custody after failing to return her daughter to her ex-husband following a court-ordered visitation over Thanksgiving. She was arrested and booked into the Bexar County Jail on Sunday night. This incident occurred after Angel Nieves did not return her nine-year-old daughter to a neutral exchange location, Guardian House, as per the court order.
Her ex-husband, Axel Nieves, had brought their daughter from Georgia to San Antonio for the visitation and handed her off at an SAPD substation. However, Angel Nieves did not comply with the court-ordered return of the child, prompting Axel Nieves to report her to SAPD. The case was then forwarded to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, leading to Angel Nieves’ indictment.
Following a police welfare check, Angel Nieves was arrested and her daughter was returned to Axel Nieves, with plans for the child to return to Georgia. Despite frustrations expressed by Axel Nieves about the process, SAPD stated that they found sufficient evidence to consider it a criminal offense and forwarded the case to the DA’s office for review and potential prosecution.
As of Monday morning, Angel Nieves remained in jail on bond, and her criminal defense attorney had not responded to requests for comment.
